when a darkened place gives way to light

on bright days, still dark arrivals
of loss we are full
a new recipe, wounds and salt
if ever an acquired taste, this

each memory
an unexpected sting, though honey comes
in a tomb of arms that knows no letting go
let this swaddling wrap her home
forever feels so cold, but

when a darkened place gives way to light
in shadow there appears
an outline of her resting shape
the narrowest of channels
can’t turn a sun to night

in every cloud
she’ll paint a purple room
of universal insecurities
she’ll enable each esteem
see here, shines she, your beauty

she is still-life with heart, with family

if a photograph captures souls
certainly it’s hers
now look,
you’ll see it there, and there, and …
